Wednesday, May 27, 2026 (9:30 AM - 12:30 PM) (PDT)

Description

ADUs and Beyond: Residential Zoning & Development Opportunities- 3 CE

This class teaches a practical approach to understanding residential zoning, ADUs, and broader development opportunities in today’s evolving housing landscape. Students will learn how recent Washington legislation expands ADU potential and increases what can be built on residential properties. They will also learn how to identify opportunities, avoid missteps, and advise clients with confidence in a changing market.

Through real-world examples and clear frameworks, this course breaks down how zoning, density rules, and site constraints impact what is actually feasible, with a strong focus on ADU development and small-scale infill opportunities.

What students will learn:

  • How to interpret zoning and permitted uses
  • How ADUs, DADUs, and middle housing expand development potential
  • How recent Washington housing legislation impacts ADUs and overall development options
  • How to identify opportunities for ADUs, lot splitting, and small-scale development
  • How site constraints affect feasibility and buildability for ADUs and other projects
  • How to spot red flags and avoid common development mistakes
  • How to translate zoning and ADU potential into property value and client strategy
